Nikema’s Priorities

AFFORDABLE HOUSING & HOME OWNERSHIP

Congresswoman Nikema Williams is working hard to ensure Georgians can afford to buy, keep, and pass down their home to the next generation.

Middle-class Atlantans are being priced out of the single-family home market by big corporations driving up costs, making purchasing a home unattainable for so many first-time buyers. Home ownership is foundational to building intergenerational wealth and closing the racial wealth gap.

Congresswoman Williams is champions three key pieces of legislation to help:

First, she plans to stop corporate buy up. The End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act to stop corporate hoarding of housing, require these companies to sell homes back to families, and phase out hedge‑fund ownership of single‑family homes over the next decade.

Second, once families get in the door, she is going to help them stay there: The bipartisan Whole Home Repairs Act creates a grant program to help low- and middle-income Americans make critical repairs and weather financial emergencies.

Third, she wants to protect the ability to pass homes down through generations. The Heirs' Estate Inheritance Resolution and Succession Act helps families pass down a home intergenerationally without a formal deed.

HEALTHCARE & REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

Congresswoman Nikema is fighting to 1) fund research, especially in support of women's health and conditions like colorectal cancer and 2) support access to care that meets patients where they are.

The Fighting Fifth is a public health powerhouse — with institutions like Morehouse School of Medicine, Emory, and the CDC calling our district home. Yet, Atlanta faces deep health disparities.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams’ Health Access Innovation Act supports faith and community-based organizations that deliver care to address the social determinants of health and reduce racial health disparities.

Reproductive rights are human rights. From her time at Planned Parenthood to her work in Washington, DC, reproductive health care has always been a priority. As co-chair of the Bipartisan Congressional Endometriosis Caucus, Congresswoman Williams is fighting to expand research, treatment, and access for the one-in-ten women living with pain, infertility, fatigue and other debilitating symptoms.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams is committed to tackling one of the most persistent barriers to economic opportunity in America: the racial wealth gap.

CLOSING THE RACIAL WEALTH GAP

For too long, Black families have faced systemic barriers that made it harder to buy a home, grow a business, or pass down assets. Closing this gap is essential to creating a fair economy where every family has a real chance to build wealth and pass it on.

Congresswoman Williams is fighting for an economy where every family has a fair shot at building lasting wealth.

  • Expanding access to capital. The Minority Entrepreneurship Grant Program Act ensures Black‑ and minority‑owned businesses can access the funding and technical support they’ve historically been denied.

  • Stopping corporate control of housing. The End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act prevents corporate investors from buying up single‑family homes and pricing families out of the market.

  • Helping families stay in their homes. The bipartisan Whole Home Repairs Act provides grants for essential repairs and emergencies so homeowners aren’t pushed out by unexpected costs.

Protecting intergenerational wealth. The HEIRS Act helps families secure clear title to inherited homes, making it easier to keep and pass down property.

SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESS

Congresswoman Nikema Williams is making real investments in Atlanta entrepreneurs so they can grow, hire, and build lasting wealth to close the wealth gap.

Small businesses are the heartbeat of the Fighting Fifth — creating jobs, anchoring neighborhoods, and turning dreams into generational wealth. But Black and minority-owned businesses have been locked out of capital, federal contracts, and the resources that help businesses grow.

Congresswoman Williams is in Congress to close that racial wealth gap.

The Minority Entrepreneurship Grant Program Act expands access to capital, strengthens technical assistance, and ensures federal investments actually reach entrepreneurs who have historically been shut out. She is fighting to open contracting opportunities, protect SBA programs, and make sure our small businesses have a real seat at the table.

ACCESS TO EDUCATION

Congresswoman Nikema Williams is fighting back against the Trump Administration's attacks on the Department of Education and our teachers.

We must not allow our education system to fail our students or our teachers. Students shouldn’t suffer based on their zip code, and we must fight the inequities that exist in our education systems.

Public education is absolutely critical to fulfilling the promise of every young person, and I will continue to fight against the destruction of our schools tooth and nail.

Congresswoman Wiliams believes higher education must be accessible to all.

She proudly supports TRIO programs, which provide low-income and first-generation college students with the mentorship and support they need to be successful in college.

She is also fighting to end student hunger through the Overcoming Higher Education Hunger Through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Act to support students by making sure students can access the SNAP benefits they may need.

VOTING RIGHTS

Congresswoman Nikema Williams is fighting for free and fair elections with universal access to the ballot box.

Congressman John Lewis showed our country that the fight for voting rights is not over until every single American is able to cast a ballot and have their vote counted.

Inspired by John Lewis and her own family's civil rights legacy, Congresswoman Williams fights for a wide range of legislation to expand access to the ballot box.

The precinct closures, Exact-Match laws, broad voter purges, and other unchecked fear tactics must be stopped.

She led on a broad packaging to limit your wait time at the polls, protect your right to vote by mail, and give workers the time off they need to get to the polls.

She was arrested causing “Good Trouble” on November 13, 2018 standing with her constituents demanding that every vote be counted in the wake of the disastrous 2018 gubernatorial election. She was removed from the state Capitol where she served as a state senator with zip ties on my wrists to the Fulton County Jail, simply for demanding we count every vote.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Congresswoman Nikema Williams is fighting for CARE — from early childhood, through adulthood, to elder care — our country must do better in providing access to health care.

Families in our country are overworked, underpaid, and forced to choose between caring for their loved ones and paying their bills. Childcare is a building block to economic prosperity, especially for moms like Nikema, but it is also just the beginning.

Congresswoman Williams is ensuring every family has the tools and resources to thrive.

She is proudly leading with the Care is an Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Act, which requires Economic Development Districts to expand access to childcare and other care‑based services so families can fully participate in our growing economy.

She is fighting for a strong federal care infrastructure that includes paid family and medical leave, long‑term care, and support for the millions of unpaid caregivers who keep their families afloat.
